Renewable Energy Science Program: Enriching the Community for Tomorrow - Application deadline May 6!

University of Iowa, College of Engineering K-12 Outreach is hosting several summer camps. Visit them online for more information: http://k-12.engineering.uiowa.edu/

RESP:ECT 2011, is a one-week summer program that is fun and challenging! It is a hands-on, project-based program designed to engage and inspire youth in the areas of math, engineering, science and technology. Students work together in an exciting environment using leading-edge technologies to sample disciplines that can change our world -- and the environment!

We target students who are creative with interest in science, math or engineering, or are just curious and enjoy exploring a new challenge.

During this RESP:ECT program, students will be exposed to key elements of environmental sustainability and renewable energy, including the following topics:

Carbon Cycle & Reducing Carbon Footprint: Students will collect real-life data and calculate how much of a carbon footprint is made by simply living! Also, students will learn how basic and simple lifestyle changes can reduce a carbon footprint.

Wind Energy: Using LEGO Renewable Energy kits, students will investigate wind energy generation, storage and utilization! Also, we will investigate energy conservation and consumption.

Solar: Did you know...Solar Power is the fastest growing energy source in the world? Solar power is affordable, reliable and offers a limitless supply of safe and clean energy for power and heat! Students will learn about the benefits of solar energy. We will also be using LEGO models to teach about solar energy.

Field Trips: Students will go on field trips, around The University of Iowa campus, to find out all of the really cool ways the university is trying to generate and save energy.
